In Iran, the majority of cities are connected with one another through the railway. The trains, here, have various ranks and rates and take passengers from one city to another. The North-South Railway of Iran, on which the historical bridge of Veresk is located, has got a global fame since it had a key role to play in WWII. Iran rail system is reasonable, safe and relatively quick. Although a few regions are not covered, many of the major cities are connected through railways. Tehran is the main hub and most services begin or end in the capital. There is at least one daily service to Mashhad, Esfahan, Tabriz, Bandar Abbas and Kerman.
Compared to intercity buses, trains are more comfortable and safe. You can lie down and rest, if you choose the first class train.

A useful way of getting to Sari or Gorgan from Tehran, the route goes through mountains and passes, is one of the great engineering achievements of the 20th century. It has recently been joined by another engineering marvel: the line between Esfahan and Shiraz that bores its way through the Zagros mountain scape. The line is part of an ambitious program to expand Iran’s rail network that in recent years has seen lines open from Qazvin to Astara via Rasht, Mashhad to Bafq and Bam to Zahedan (though the connecting service into Pakistan has not run for years due to security issues).

Moreover, it might be interesting for you to know that such train stations as Savad'kouh, Gadook, Dow'gol, Versek, Sorkh'Aabaad, Tir'Taashm and MIr'Javeh are registered as national heritages of Iran.

Classes and Costs of Iran Trains
Trains can be a great way to socialize with the locals and enjoy the scenery. The majority of trains have two classes, though a significant minority have only one. If you decide a 2nd-class compartment is too crowded for you, you can often upgrade to 1st class along the way. A seat in 2nd class costs a bit less than a normal (ma’mooli) bus, and a 1st-class seat is a bit less than a VIP bus. Most long-distance trains in Iran are overnight and classify as sleeper trains. The compartments can host four or six passengers. Solo women should strongly consider requesting a single-sex sleeper. On most 1st-class services, meals are served in your compartment. Long-distance trains also travel with a restaurant car. The most comfortable trains are on the busy Tehran to Mashhad route.

Where to Buy a Train Ticket in Iran?

You can go to the train stations and purchase the ticket directly. Train tickets can be booked at railway stations up to a month in advance. Especially for trains leaving on Thursday, Friday and public holidays. Don’t forget to bring your passport, as you need it to buy a train ticket. You can also book a ticket via online websites. To do this, of course, you need to ask for the help of a Farsi-speaker since their language is Persian and also you need to have a tourist credit card. Train tickets are usually sold out a week or two prior to the departure date. If you have no luck finding a ticket, it is possible to be put on a waiting list. You can go to the railway station and give your cell phone number; they shall text/call you once there is an opening. This option is best if your departure date is spontaneous and your plans flexible.

Note: You could also buy your ticket online through Rhein tourism company which provides you with the best quality services.
